**Mandy Hansen Scours Norway for a Crab Boat, Faces Tough Choices**

Mandy Hansen, daughter of veteran captain Sig Hansen of the *Northwestern*, is navigating the challenging waters of Norway’s fishing industry in search of a vessel suitable for the family’s future crab ventures. Her father, Captain Sig, has entrusted her with this important task, reflecting a hard-earned trust between father and daughter. This responsibility comes years after Sig initially hesitated to let Mandy join the crew, but he now recognizes her commitment to the family business.

In Norway, Mandy reconnects with Tom, an old family friend and trusted local fisherman, to explore options for a boat. “If I’m going to be able to find a boat in Norway, I need someone who knows the key players,” Mandy explains. Tom introduces her to several local options, including a Norwegian-style crab boat that uses traditional conical pots. However, Mandy realizes she needs something closer to the *Northwestern*—a larger vessel with steel pots to withstand the harsh northern seas near the Russian border.

After assessing several boats, Mandy meets John, another contact with a 140-ton boat that shows potential. The vessel needs modifications, including a knuckle crane and an expanded deck, to meet her needs. The asking price is around $1.5 million, and Sig and Mandy discuss placing an earnest deposit to secure the deal.

Meanwhile, back on the *Northwestern*, Sig begins hauling gear, successfully pulling up pots loaded with crab, reinforcing his confidence in the venture’s prospects. Encouraged, Sig agrees to Mandy’s plan, allowing her to move forward with the down payment on the vessel, positioning the family business for future success.
