Danielle Colby Calls Out ‘American Pickers’ Co-Star Mike Wolfe for 'Epic' Donation
Danielle Colby has a special place in her heart for her American Pickers co-star and longtime pal, Mike Wolfe.
Earlier this week, the media personality shared a photo of herself dressed casually and looking overjoyed by a “rare piece of Burly history” that was propped up next to her.
In the Dec. 23 Instagram upload, Colby posed beside a massive yellow poster promoting Gay Dawn, an iconic burlesque performer from the ’40s, in “This Season’s Maddest Merriest Musical Comedy Lovely Adorable Gay DAWN!”
“Gals and Gags, Legs and Laughs! There’s nothing like a burlesque show, a lot of laughs a lot of thrills, and a blush or two!” the original piece noted, “America’s funniest comedians and the world’s most beautiful girls! Adult entertainment.”
“Gifts that pique my curiosity and allow my obsessive tendencies to run amok with exhaustive research are my absolute favorite!” she exclaimed in the caption, shouting out the History Channel series and her co-star. “I’m so excited to hang this rare piece of Burly history in my Stripping History museum. Thank you @americanpickers Thank you my awesome brother @mikewolfeamericanpicker for this epic donation of this original poster!”
Colby continued, sharing a bit of history on the “star of the show” and her professional opinion on the details within the poster. “My guess is that this poster went against the blue law in whatever theater found itself in and the artist had to go back in and pencil in bikini tops and G strings where they did not exist before. This was a pretty normal thing.”
“I actually used to do this type of work in my father‘s photography studio,” Colby revealed, explaining, “He learned it from his mother and father. It’s the exact same technique that my grandparents used in their photography studio my father used in his and I used in mine before I became a part of American Pickers.”
“These little things always fascinate me,” she gushed.
Colby and Wolfe have known each other for quite some time–with a history dating back well before she joined the cast of the A&E original series.
The two “friends for life” actually met at a fitting location.
“I first met Mike at a yard sale,” she recalled in a 2019 feature in Freshly Inked. It was in Leclaire, Iowa across the street from my Mother’s house. I was looking at a lamp, he bought the lamp, I got mad at him, he looked at me and said ‘sorry girl, the time to buy it is when you see it.’ I liked his sass…we were pretty much inseparable after that.”
“Also, side note,” she added, “I lost my wallet that day with all my rent money in it. I was mortified! But look how much I found in friendship that day, and I wasn’t even looking for it.”
