Is ‘Curse Of Oak Island’ Coming Back For Season 12?
The reality television show The Curse of Oak Island has been one of the most popular programs on The History Channel ever since it premiered back in 2014.
After a disappointing end to season 11 of the show, however, fans are now wondering if there will even be a season 12.
The Curse Of Oak Island
The Curse of Oak Island follows a team of hunters led by brothers Matty and Rick Lagina as they try to find centuries-old treasure on Oak Island in Nova Scotia. For centuries, legend has had it that sacred treasures like the Holy Grail and the Ark of the Covenant are buried on the island.
“It’s the world’s longest running treasure hunt,” Rick said back in 2017.
Unfortunately for them and for fans, however, season 11 ended in disappointment: no treasure. Matty admitted afterward that once again at the end of a season, they “don’t have the treasure or the story in our hands.”
This has led some frustrated fans to speculate that it might finally be time to cancel Curse of Oak Island. But will The History Channel actually do it?
After all, the show isn’t just about a few final minutes of glory. Along the journey, viewers learn the history behind the treasures and the events that led up to it having gone missing.
Will The History Channel Cancel Curse Of Oak Island?
It’s reportedly unlikely that The History Channel will cancel Curse of Oak Island because ratings for the show are still up, according to Forbes. Indeed, the November 7 premiere of season 11 was watched by a whopping 2 million people on cable.
The audience only grew from there, with the third episode breaking into the top 10 most-watched cable programs of the week with 2.4 million viewers on November 21. This made it the most popular cable show on television for the day by a margin of nearly 400,000 people. In fact, the only cable shows that earned higher ratings for that week were Fox News programs, NFL and college football games, and a Hallmark holiday movie.
