Mandy's Selfie Saves Sig's Crab Catch! | Deadliest Catch
Lost and Found: Captain Sig Hansen and Mandy Navigate the Honey Hole
With only ten days remaining before processors shut their doors, Captain Sig Hansen and his daughter Mandy find themselves in a race against time. The once-familiar grounds, marked with ridges and gullies, seem unrecognizable as they struggle to relocate a prime fishing spot.
“I mean, we had a little spot around here,” Sig recalls, frustration evident in his voice. “It was a dip, a hole, but I can’t remember exactly where.”
Mandy, attempting to assist, urges her father to check the charts. “Dad, come on,” she insists. “You must have it on a plotter somewhere.”
The search intensifies as Norman, a crew member, is tasked with recovering old data from a discarded computer. The machine, a relic from the ’90s, holds the key to their success—if it can be revived.
“Roger that. Can you hook it up?” Sig asks eagerly.
As Norman fires up the ancient device, anticipation builds. “See, if I go to file… OP97, OP95—what’s that? That’s a hole! That’s a hole!” The crew erupts in excitement.
“Awesome job, Norman!” Sig exclaims, relief washing over him. “You got to come see this. Look at how the dip forms a hole—it’s the spot we’ve been searching for!”
However, just as quickly as their luck turns, it vanishes. The screen flickers and then—nothing. The computer dies, taking their rediscovered coordinates with it. Frustration sets in.
“What happened? Come on now, it’s gone?” Sig mutters in disbelief. “I didn’t touch a thing!”
Norman troubleshoots, but the device refuses to power back up. “The power cord is plugged in, and the strip shows power,” he confirms. “The computer must have finally died.”
Defeat lingers in the air until Mandy proposes a modern solution. “I bet I can pull those coordinates up for you.” Using her phone, she retrieves the data. “Look at that! Got your spot—blow it up, write it down before my phone crashes.”
With their “honey hole” rediscovered, the crew moves swiftly. “We’ll set through here and see if there’s life. If there is, we go in for the slam,” Sig declares.
As the first pots surface, the results are promising. “Nice, clean, big crab!” Sig grins. “We’re just warming up.”
With each pull, their excitement grows. “That’s a good 50-60,” Sig estimates. “We need a few more of those to fill the tank.”
Hours of aggressive fishing pay off. “Seventy crabs in 20 hours! Crazy!” Mandy exclaims, pride in her voice.
Sig looks at his daughter with admiration. “Thanks for showing me that. Now I know where to go in the future.”
“Fine,” Mandy jokes, “but don’t let anyone follow you. This is passing the torch.”
“The cloud doesn’t get my hole,” Sig laughs. “Stay away from my hole, you cloud!”
With a successful haul and their secret fishing spot secured for another season, the Hansen crew proves that a mix of old-school grit and modern technology is the key to survival on the Bering Sea.
