American Pickers star Mike Wolfe faces fresh problems as he delays launch of Iowa guesthouse
American Pickers star Mike Wolfe has been renovating a rental property in Iowa, which he bought for $300,000, but it is yet to open to the public as an AirBnB-style rental
American Pickers host Mike Wolfe had previously announced that his Iowa rental property would be up and running by fall 2024, but the doors are yet to open.
The 60-year-old television personality has been working on refurbishing the Le Claire property since he purchased it in December 2021. However, the renovation seems to be taking longer than initially expected.
He bought the property for $300,000, with plans to have it ready for rent by the end of 2024. Located opposite his Antique Archeology store, the property was set to become an Airbnb-style accommodation named Two Lanes Guesthouse. However, the business is yet to launch.
An insider told The US Sun, “Mike was still working on the guesthouse in October. He was bringing antiques, decor and furniture to and from the home. He was also speaking with workers regarding the exterior of the building.” While the business may not be operational yet, work is ongoing.
Wolfe filed a permit on September 26, 2024, to hang an antique sign reading ‘Two Lanes Guesthouse’ on the property. No other permits have been submitted for the home, leaving its opening date uncertain.
Despite not being fully prepared, Wolfe has already kicked off his Two Lanes Guesthouse project with a dedicated social media page, amassing a substantial following on Instagram. The page initially hinted to fans that it would be open for business in October 2024, with a post that announced, “Coming this October. Two Lanes Guest House LeClaire will be ready just in time to watch the beautiful fall colors change across the Mississippi River! All are hand-crafted and curated by @mikewolfeamericanpicker. Keep an eye out for updates!”
An additional update kept fans informed, posting, “@mikewolfeamericanpicker is hard at work carefully staging and crafting the @ontwolanes Guest House LeClaire for YOU! Stay tuned for booking announcements later this fall.”
However, the page still bears the “coming soon” tag, with one of the latest photos revealing some rooms have been completed. A post showcasing the dining room revealed decor including an antique wooden table with bar stools, a vintage red rug, vibrant artwork, and a sign that reads ‘tourists’.
The two-story structure, built in 1880, boasts three bedrooms, a basement, a fireplace, among other amenities. It’s believed that Wolfe aims to replicate his success with similar properties, transforming them into profitable rentals.
Mike also owns a vacation rental nestled in a historic building in Columbia, Tennessee, built back in 1857. He charges $275 per night for Friday to Sunday stays, and $200 per night from Monday to Thursday. However, during festive periods like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s, the rate jumps to $425 a night.
The listing on the Tennessee rental website describes, “This is the first time that fans of American Pickers get to see picks from the show that Mike has pulled out of barns and sheds across America presented as decor. The entire one-bedroom loft is located above a bicycle shop inside a two-story brick building dating back to 1857. The loft measures about 1,100 square feet, which for Mike was the perfect size to showcase his own one-of-a-kind, Americana style.
“Guests will appreciate how Mike has integrated items of different vintages and locales to create one cohesive look. The incorporation of natural pieces, like antlers and bison sculpture, partner well with the more Industrial rusted picks. Intentionally placed vintage signs delineate and organize spaces like the hand-painted, wooden sign outside the bedroom which reads ‘Rooms for Tourists’ or the double-sided turquoise ‘City Cafe’ sign picked in Alabama and now hanging over the kitchen island.”
