Mike, 59, recently shared an Instagram post with his followers, revealing an important project that he and motorcycle enthusiast Jared Schwarz have been working on for the past year.
The photo featured Mike standing next to Jared, whom Mike referred to as the “motorcycle whisperer” from Southern Missouri.
The two men posed behind a beautifully restored orange bike—one that Jared had painstakingly brought back to life.
Mike took a moment to explain the significance of the project, shedding light on the process of restoring a vintage motorcycle.
“I gave him this bike to breathe new life into it a year ago,” Mike wrote in the caption.
He continued, “Jared brought this original 1937 Indian motorcycle back to life, and today, it’s back in my hands.”
The bike had been sitting idle for decades before Jared took on the project.
Mike noted that the bike had “sat for decades with gauntlet gloves and goggles on the seat, waiting for the owner to return.”
“Ever since I’ve owned it, I’ve felt connected to it,” Mike explained.
“It’s a special feeling to bring something like this back to life. I’m so blessed that Jared took on this project. He truly understands the importance of what he’s doing.”
Mike’s caption concluded with a personal touch, “I can’t wait to lose myself on a back road with this old gal.”
This restoration project is a clear reflection of Mike’s passion for antiques and his dedication to preserving the history behind the items he picks.
The Struggling Ratings of American Pickers
This new post comes at a time when American Pickers is facing an unexpected scheduling change and a continued decline in ratings.
Earlier this month, American Pickers experienced a sudden shift in its usual airtime.
Typically, American Pickers airs new episodes on Wednesday nights at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on the History Channel.
However, on April 3, no new episode aired. Instead, Pawn Stars was shown in its place, which caught many fans off guard.
The abrupt programming change left many fans puzzled and frustrated.
One fan commented on the show’s Instagram, writing, “I was ready to watch the new show, but nothing was on. What’s going on?”
The timing of the programming shuffle only added to concerns about the show’s declining viewership.
Despite American Pickers‘ long history of drawing solid audiences, the new season’s ratings have been lackluster.
Season 25 premiered in December, with Mike Wolfe, his brother Robbie (57), Danielle Colby (48), and Jersey John (60) making up the current cast.
The premiere’s first episode garnered just 723,000 viewers, and the second episode dropped even further to 676,000 viewers.
By comparison, the season 24 premiere, which aired in January 2023, had nearly 1 million viewers, attracting 943,000 fans.
This sharp decline in ratings has left many fans questioning whether the show has lost its spark.
Criticism and Mixed Reactions
Many viewers have expressed disappointment in recent episodes, claiming that they have been “lackluster” and “boring.”
There’s been significant online chatter about how the chemistry between the hosts, particularly Mike and his new co-hosts, doesn’t quite measure up to the magic that the show once had with Frank Fritz.
Some fans have even voiced their discontent with Robbie, calling for him to be replaced.
Robbie, who replaced Frank Fritz in 2021 after Frank left due to health issues, has been met with mixed reactions from the fanbase.
Frank’s sudden departure from the show remains a sore spot for many viewers.
Despite his health battles, Frank was a fan favorite, and his absence has left a noticeable gap.
In contrast, some viewers have praised Robbie’s efforts, though many still argue that he does not have the same dynamic with Mike that Frank once did.
A Glimmer of Hope? New Episodes in the Works
Despite the mixed reviews and the declining ratings, American Pickers has been actively working on new episodes.
Producers have even reached out to fans on social media, including Facebook, asking for their input in helping to shape some of the upcoming storylines.
However, behind the scenes, there have been whispers about the future of the show.
A close friend of Mike’s recently revealed to The U.S. Sun that both Mike and Robbie are considering retiring from the show soon.
Neither Mike nor Robbie has confirmed an official timeline for their departure, but it seems clear that the two men are focused on other endeavors.
Mike Wolfe’s Focus on Other Business Ventures
While American Pickers struggles with its viewership numbers, Mike Wolfe has been keeping busy with a variety of other business ventures.
In addition to his work on the show, Mike owns multiple antique shops across the country and is deeply involved in the antique community.
Mike recently promoted a special event at his antique shop in Columbia, Tennessee—an April 20th “Cars and Coffee” gathering, which was met with positive excitement from fans.
His involvement in the event reflects his passion for cars and collectibles, another extension of his love for all things vintage.
Mike’s personal life has also been thriving.
His girlfriend, Leticia Kleene, recently opened a coffee shop in Cave City, Kentucky, and Mike has been actively involved in supporting her business.
His growing interest in these outside ventures may also be a sign that he’s looking to shift his focus away from American Pickers in the near future.
What’s Next for American Pickers?
As for the future of American Pickers, it remains uncertain.
The latest season, while filming new episodes, is struggling to recapture the charm that made the show such a hit in the early days.
Mike Wolfe’s personal and professional pursuits outside of the show suggest that he may be ready to move on to new challenges.
Fans continue to hope that the magic of the show can be restored, but with both Mike and Robbie considering their futures, it’s unclear how much longer the iconic series will remain on the air.
In the meantime, viewers continue to follow Mike’s journey on social media, hoping for updates on both his personal projects and the future of American Pickers.
