American Pickers Star Mike Wolf Butts Heads with Frank Fritz Over Junkyard Purchase

In the latest episode of American Pickers, Mike Wolf clashed with Frank Fritz after discovering that his co-star had overpaid for a unique junkyard find. The scenes, which aired on Wednesday night, showcased Frank’s excitement over a vintage Plymouth Coupe that had been sitting underground for nearly four decades. However, after spending $5,500 on the vehicle, he soon faced the harsh reality of his impulsive purchase.

The conflict arose when Frank came across the classic car in a dusty underground bunker in Maryland. “When I saw that Plymouth Coupe, it looked like a nice original car,” he said. “It had original paint and had been sheltered for the last 35 years. I just liked it as a unique piece.” Though Frank typically prefers motorcycles, he was drawn to the car’s design and offered the owner $5,000. Mike was shocked by this decision, exclaiming, “Whoa! All of a sudden, he’s spending our money. What car? Why is he interested in it?”

Initially, the owner had no interest in selling the Plymouth, but Frank persisted and ultimately struck a deal for $5,500. Frank was excited, saying, “We were on the road a couple of extra days, and that car kept haunting me. I just can’t get that Plymouth Coupe out of my mind.” Mike, however, expressed concern, stating that Frank’s dreamy vision of the car was clouding his judgment.

After the deal was finalized, the pair arranged for the car to be towed back to their home base in Iowa. Unfortunately, Frank’s enthusiasm was quickly dampened when his trusted friend, Dave, appraised the vehicle and valued it between $3,000 and $5,000. “It’s in very good condition, but if you did a ground-up restoration on it, you’re going to put more into it than it’s worth,” Dave warned.

This appraisal left Mike frustrated. “That car was a bust,” he vented. “Frank needs to learn he cannot have everything, and he needs to learn when to walk away.” He added, “If you want that car, you’re going to have to call some dealers. We’re not paying Danielle more hours to try and sell it, and I don’t know what to do,” before walking away.

At the end of the episode, Frank revealed that a year and a half had passed, and he still hadn’t sold the car. “The Plymouth is my baby,” he admitted. “I took a little hit on it, and I haven’t been able to sell it, so for now, I’m going to enjoy it myself. I’ve had to fix the motor, the transmission, the brakes, the radiator, the alternator, and the fuel pumps. I mean, this thing has been top to bottom.”
